Getting Started With Chom IsisQuick
This page explains the basics of getting into Chom Isis, it assumes that you know nothing about the game but you have got a player name from the admin. If not, then go back to the main page and find out how!

This section will run through each step using a number of web pages. These web pages mimic what you will see when you are logged in. You can go through this tutorial either before the game has started or follow the steps when you start. If there is anything you feel is not covered in enough depth, please ask on the help forum as there might be other players having the same problem!

First Steps
    Tip!
    Where you see this:
    Continue or Go icon
    it means 'continue' or 'go'.
  1. Log In
  2. Log in on the main page
Log in by putting your username and password in the boxes on the main page. Either press return to login or hit the 'action button'.
  3. The Player Screen
  4. This is the hub of Chom Isis. From here, you can see your standing in the game, check on the health of your pawns and spend resources.
This is what you see when you log in
  5. Getting Pawns
  6. You get resources from Pawns. The more pawns you own and the happier they are, the more resources you get. Let's auction for a pawn.
Takes you to the pawn auction
Click on this icon to go to the Pawn Auction.

This will load the pawn auction page.

This is where pawns are bought and sold
Pawns are added every night at midnight. You can always wait until the new set of pawns come on the market and get a cheaper one. The pawns tend to be expensive at the start of the game.
12 Hours after you bid, if no-one else has bid, the pawn will be under your protection. To move on with this tutorial, let's say that we've bought a pawn and no-one else has bidded on it since.
  7. Examining your first pawn
  8. Pawns and resources are the most important part of Chom Isis. Let's have a look at a pawn.

    Jacob, a rather sad pawn
Pawns are rated on their wealth, love and hobbies. Jacob (above) is suicidal and if he stays like this for long, he will commit suicide. You must not let this happen and you will lose half your resrouces if you do.

Each happiness is based on the grade of the associated part of their life. Wealth happiness depends on the grade of job, Love happiness depends on the grade of spouse and the hobby happiness depends on the grade of their hobby. You can give you pawn a job, spouse and hobby using operatives. We'll look at that later.

Having a job is not quite enough! It needs to be a good job. If your pawn is getting sadder each day, then this means the job, love relationship or hobby is just not good enough! To keep a pawn stable, you need to boost their job to a minimum level. These minimum levels can be found in the following section.

  9. Chom Isis Viewer
  10. To load the viewer, click on illuminatii from the player page:
Load up the Chom Isis Viewer
    Go to the Viewer

The viewer is used to show lots of information about the game. This can be vital to work out tactics. It is split into sections, beginning with the player section:
The top part of the viewer

You can compare how well you're doing compared to the rest of the players. The second section deals with the pawns. This lists all the pawn and how happy they are. It also shows the different levels of happiness and which ones are in the auction. No image is really required for this one.

The corporation section is important and often ignored:
    Gate Prime, an example corporation
The viewer shows all the corporations, but only one is shown here. The minimum level is the lowest job level that your pawn needs to obtain to not get sadder from their job. It is shown in dark blue here. If your pawn works for Gate Prime and is a "Hoppa Technician", they will not get any happier or sadder. However, if they are a "Dock Technician", then they will get happier. This is not set! The minimum level can change as the corporate wealth changes. Keep an eye on it.

The last section gives the minimum levels for spouse and hobby. Much the same for corporations but not shown here.
Jobs
This is a big section and rightly so. Jobs with operatives are they way in which you can affect the lives of pawns. You'll spend a lot of time setting jobs and it can get quite complicated! For the purpose of this section, when we talk about 'jobs', we are talking about giving an operative a task to do, rather than the 'job' that the pawn does.
  1. Choosing an Operative
  2. Jacob is pretty unhappy. Let's get him a spouse. First, we need to start the job setting process. Go to:
Brings up the job creation screens
    Create a new job

The first thing to do is choose an Operative to do the job for you.
    Choose an operative
Each operative has a speciality. It will cost less for them to do the job that is their speciality.
  3. Choosing the Job Type
  4. Choose the job type
This is where you choose the type of job you want the operative to do. More information on the types of job can be found on the detailed help section. We're going to do a 'Get Spouse' job.
  5. Choosing a Pawn
  6. Now we say which pawn we want to do over.
    Choose a pawn
We're going to choose Jacob but you can do jobs on any pawn you like.
  7. Choosing Resources
  8. We can spend as many or as little resources on the pawn as we like. We do this by inputting some resources and then getting a quote. If the chance of success is not high enough, we try a new value of resources. You cannot continue until you have a quote.
    Choose resources
For this job, if we try 50 resources, then press get quote:
Choose resources, now we can continue
We'll go with this rather poor 21%. The highest you can get is 99%.
  9. Choosing a time
  10. This is when the job will take place. Don't forget this is the server time which is London local time!
Choose the time, use the get free time to do the next available slot
Pick a time when you want the job to occur. Then press the Quote button. ALternatively, you can find out when the operative is next free to do this job by pressing the quote with the magnifying glass. When you have a time that is ok, you will see a new row:
The system has found the next available time, click to continue
Different operatives will be free at different times, if this one is not, you can go back and try another operative.
  11. Confirm Info
  12. Now you'll see a confirmation box. If these details are right, click confirm. If not, then you might need to start again (depending on your browser).
Review the settings for this job
You'll notice the two percentages. As they are the same, you can expect the job to have a 21% chance of passing!
  13. Known Information
  14. If you're doing a job on a pawn that is not yours, you get the chance to add any information you might know about the pawn. This can be used to alter the chance of success. You won't see the known information box with your own pawns! It appears after the Resources screen and looks like:
Add an info to improve your chances
If your information is correct now, then you get 5% onto your score. If it is wrong, you get 5% off your score. Of course, therefore, the system gives you the two limits, if you're right and if you're wrong. The default (as above) is the same as the percentage you chose from the last screen.

Let's pretend we know some information about the pawn we're doing a job on:
We've added some info and the percentage chance has changed
If we're right, we now have a 106% chance of getting this job through, if it is wrong, then there is a 86% chance of success. Of course, you would use this by setting the percentage low in the last screen and then use this screen to improve the mark.
Mail
Communication is the most important part of Chom Isis. Only by communicating and getting allies can you come close to winning. The mail system is used for sending messages to other players and to the message board. The mail icon has two looks:
You have new mail
You have new mail
You have no new mail
You have no new mail
Click on the mail icon to open up the mail screen:
The mail screen - hub of communication
All quite self-explanatory. You will get mail from operatives to confirm jobs and to tell you when a job has been completed.
Global Messages
This section covers the Message Board and Skynet. These are message systems that all game players can see. They are generated quite differently.

The message board is used for people to send messages for all to see. This might include pawn information. Use this to screw people over.
Skynet is a news service that reports on things from within Chom Isis. If you set a job that has a high percentage chance of success, then there is a chance that Skynet will pick up on it and publish some information about the job. Also, this is where random events will occur to all people, such as a company value dropping.
